A few years ago I lent money to a neighbour who was in a tight spot. The agreement was that he would repay the debt of 10,000 francs by the end of the year. That didn't happen and he has continued to stall for several years now. Now I am in a tight spot and need the money back. What is the most effective way to reclaim the debt?

Hi there,

You can go about reclaiming your money in several ways. Filing an entry in the debt collection register of the debtors municipality is one option. You can also use a writ of execution to enforce your claim - but both you and the debtor must sign the writ - which the debtor may not choose to do. If they do sign the writ of execution, you can place a hold on their assets to prioritize the repayment of the debt before other spending. It is generally a good idea to create a writ of execution before lending money.
