Hi there,
Bitcoin keys should be held in a format which cannot be accessed through the Internet. This is especially true if you hold a substantial amount of Bitcoin.
Storing your Bitcoin keys in paper format in a fireproof safe or safe deposit box and never storing them on a digital device will ensure that they cannot be accessed by hackers or by malware and other invasive software.
Ideally, you should store your Bitcoins in a number of wallets, each with its individual key. That way if one wallet is compromised, you will not lose all your Bitcoins.
If you actually use Bitcoins to make purchases, rather than just storing value, you will likely need a more accessible key. In this case, consider using a separate Bitcoin wallet containing only the amount of Bitcoin necessary for your purchases.
