Can you please explain the difference between the Swiss AHV and a Swiss pension fund?
The OASI (AHV in German, AVS in French) is a basic social old-age insurance scheme that is mandatory for all adult residents of Switzerland. It is part of the first pillar of the Swiss pension system, and provides a basic old-age pension to those who have reached retirement age.
Occupational pension funds are primarily available to people who work and earn an income. They are part of the second pillar of the Swiss pension system, and provide retirees with a supplemental pension on top of the basic OASI pension.
You can find detailed information in the guide to the Swiss three-pillar pension system.
