Near Field Communication (NFC)

Near field communication, or NFC, is the term used to describe the technology which enables the contactless exchange of information over small distances (up to 10 centimeters).

So far, NFC has primarily been used for cash-free payments. NFC chips are based on RFID (radio frequency identification) technology and are used in contactless credit cards (MasterPass from Mastercard, payWave from Visa) and in some mobile devices (iPhone, Samsung, HTC).
