Shark Watcher

A “shark watcher” is a firm which monitors stock market activity on behalf of publicly-traded companies. The aim of a shark watcher is to determine which entities are buying shares in those companies and how much stock is under each shareholder’s control. This information helps client companies protect themselves from hostile takeovers by unscrupulous investors or “sharks”.
