1. How popular is Prime Video from Amazon in Switzerland?
So far, Amazon has not been able to compete with Netflix in Swiss popularity contests. The 2023 video streaming survey by moneyland.ch shows that just 23% of residents use Amazon Prime Video, while 58% are Netflix users.

Prime Video costs 9.99 Swiss francs per month for subscribers in Switzerland.
3. Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can test Prime Video from Amazon for free for 7 days. If you subscribe to the German or French Amazon portals, you get a 30-day free Amazon Prime Video trial. When you subscribe to Amazon Prime via Amazon.de from Switzerland, only a limited selection of videos is available during the free trial.
4. Amazon Prime vs. Prime Video by Amazon
Amazon Prime (not to be confused with Prime Video from Amazon) is Amazon’s paid subscription. It includes free shipping for purchases from Amazon, access to eBooks and audio books, and video streaming. An Amazon Prime subscription costs more than a Prime Video from Amazon subscription, with an Amazon Prime subscription on Amazon’s German portal costing 7.99 euros (approximately 9 francs) per month. However, the main benefit of the Amazon Prime paid subscription – free deliveries of purchases from Amazon – does not apply to subscribers in Switzerland. Additionally, many videos are not available to Swiss Amazon Prime subscribers. These videos are available to Swiss subscribers to Prime Video by Amazon.
5. How do I subscribe to Prime Video?
If you are subscribing to Prime Video from Switzerland, you have to pay careful attention to how you go about doing it. If you live in Switzerland, you should be careful to avoid subscribing to Amazon Prime, as it offers very little value. Do not subscribe through an Amazon website (Amazon.de or Amazon.fr, for example).
Instead, go directly to primevideo.com and subscribe directly. If you already have an Amazon login, you can use this to log in when you subscribe.
6. Do I need to open an Amazon account to subscribe to Prime Video?
Yes. In order to subscribe to Prime Video, you must create an Amazon account.
7. Can Swiss subscribers access Prime Video Channels from Amazon?
No. Unfortunately, Amazon’s Prime Video Channels is not available to subscribers in Switzerland. That means you are not able to watch popular content like Eurosport Player, MGM classic movies, BBC and ZDF productions, Terra X documentaries and much more.
8. Which devices can access Prime Video from Amazon?
You can stream prime video on many Smart TV sets from Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Philips.

You can stream video simultaneously on up to two devices using one Prime Video account. But there is a catch: You cannot stream the same video simultaneously on both devices.

Yes, Prime Video offers up to 5 additional profiles in addition to the main profile. Profiles for adults and children are possible.
12. How many movies and series are available on Prime Video?
Subscribers in Switzerland can access around 5000 movies and 1100 series.
13. What exclusive original content is offered?
Like Netflix, Amazon has also moved towards creating its own original productions which it offers exclusively to its paying subscribers. Amazon originals include Bosch, Star Trek: Picard, Tales from the Loop, The Expanse, The Man in the High Castle and The Widow.
In addition to US productions, Amazon also produces series and shows in Europe. These include German thriller series like Beat and You Are Wanted.
14. What classics and blockbusters are offered?
In addition to Amazon originals, Prime Video subscribers can also stream popular series from past decades.
Prime Video includes series like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Das A-Team, Doctor Who, Family Guy, Friends, Hawaii Five-0, House (Dr. House), How I Met Your Mother, Married... with Children, Monk, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and others.
Numerous popular movies are also available for streaming, including classics like Cast Away, E.T., Fight Club, Gladiator, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill, Miami Vice, Minority Report, The Big Lebowski, The Bourne Identity, The Godfather, The Wolf of Wall Street, Top Gun and many more.
15. Where is Prime Video from Amazon lacking?
The search function and generally disorganized interface are a definite weak point. Individual episodes of series are listed separately. The same video may be listed more than once – but in different languages. In some cases, using the search function is the only practical way to find a series in your preferred language.
16. How does Prime Video compare to Netflix and Disney+?
The content offered is the biggest difference. Netflix, Amazon and Disney all differentiate their streaming services by offering original content which is available only to their subscribers.
Netflix customers can choose between three different plans, each with a different price tag. Netflix plans differ in the image quality they deliver and the number of devices which can stream from the same account simultaneously. Prime Video from Amazon, on the other hand, offers just one plan.
17. Can I end my subscription at any time?
As with most video streaming services, Prime Video subscriptions can be terminated at any time. After unsubscribing, you can continue to use your plan for the remainder of the period which you have already paid for.
18. Does Prime Video have the option of downloading videos?
Yes. The Prime Video app for the iPhone and Android lets you download series, movies and other videos within the app. That lets you take advantage of your home WLAN to download videos which you can then watch while you are out and about.
19. In which languages can I watch videos?
Many videos on Prime Video can be viewed in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and other languages. Many videos also come with subtitles in a broad selection of languages.
