Hi there,

The term "2a" refers to Swiss second pillar retirement assets and pension funds which fall under the category of compulsory occupation pension savings. Employees and their Swiss employers are required to contribute to 2a pension plans.

The term "2b" refers to voluntary Swiss pension plans which cater to self-employed and unemployed individuals. Only a handful of pension plans which fall under this category are available in Switzerland. The majority of non-employees save for retirement using third pillar solutions (3a or 3b).

Best regards from Moneyguru
