Hi Moneyguru,

I have been working in Switzerland for 2 years now. I am a Greek citizen and my taxes are taken straight off my salary. Can I still open a 3a retirement account?

Hi there,

Yes, if you are employed (more than 20%) in Switzerland and reside in Switzerland, you can open a 3a retirement savings account and deposit money into it - up to the annual limit for 3a contributions. Contribution limits are higher for self-employed individuals than they are for people who work for an employer.

Note: Not all Swiss banks cater to residents who do not hold permanent residence (C permit). Read the moneyland.ch guide to Swiss bank accounts for foreigners to find out which banks could work well for you.

Best regards from Moneyguru
