What is the difference between the Swiss pillar 3a and pillar 3b for retirement savings?
Greetings,
Both 3a and 3b retirement savings fall under the third pillar of retirement planning - or private retirement savings.
The primary differences between these to categories of private retirement savings are as follows:
1. Contributions to 3a retirement savings can be deducted from taxable income while 3b contributions are not tax deductible.
2. Contributions to 3a retirement savings are subject to annual limits. Contributions to 3b savings are not limited.
3. 3a retirement savings can only be withdrawn 5 years before retirement age at the earliest. 3b savings can be withdrawn at any time (in keeping with private contracts).
