My bathroom cupboard window fell and broke.  Is this covered by household insurance? If so as a tenant who do I contact?

If you rent your home and the bathroom cupboard belongs to the landlord, then you would normally be liable to pay for the damage. If you have personal liability insurance, then your liability will be covered by that insurance. In this case, you can file a claim with your personal liability insurance provider and send them the quote or bill from your landlord. They will check whether or not you are actually liable for the damage, and if you are, they will pay out a benefit in keeping with the insurance deductible and T&Cs.

If you own the bathroom cupboard, then your household insurance may cover the damage if: your household insurance has the optional insurance rider for glass and the damage was caused by a covered hazard (fire, etc.); or your household insurance has an rider that covers accidental damage to your own property (usually called casco insurance). The best thing to do is to file an insurance claim. Your insurer will tell you whether or not the claim is valid.
