What is the best deductible for Swiss household and liability insurance? Does it make more sense to get a high deductible or a low deductible?

Is there a general rule to follow here?

Thanks

Greetings,

The rule of thumb for insurance deductibles is: the higher the deductible, the lower the premiums.

If you do not expect to make many claims and can afford to cover the cost of smaller damages yourself choosing a high deductible can significantly reduce the cost of premiums.

However, it is important to note that Swiss household and personal liability insurance policies generally apply your deductible on a per-claim basis. That means you cover all costs below the deductible out of your own pocket every time you make a claim.

Unless you only want coverage for unexpected, major catastrophes, it may be worth paying a higher premium and paying lower deductibles on your claims. This is especially true if you cannot afford to cover hundreds or even thousands of francs yourself.

It is worth noting that, in contrast to health insurance and car insurance, Swiss household and liability insurance is not particularly expensive - even if you choose a low deductible.

Best regards from Moneyguru
