Merchants in Switzerland have no legal obligation to accept any payment method other than Swiss coins and banknotes issued by the Swiss National Bank. However, if merchants clearly declare acceptance of third-party payment services such as debit cards, credit cards, Reka checks/cards or checks, they are generally contractually obligated to accept those payment methods.
Merchants are free to impose special conditions such as minimum transaction amounts or markups on standard prices when payments are made using third-party services like payment cards or checks.
