I will be retiring next year, and would like to make a big voluntary contribution (around 50,000 francs) to round off my pension. Can I do this so soon before retirement?

Hi there,

You can make voluntary payments to close gaps in your pension fund up until you retire.

Important: Voluntary contributions made during the 3 years before retirement become taxable if you withdraw the money as a lump sum when you retire. This regulation prevents people from depositing windfalls or private savings into their pension fund for the sole purpose of bypassing taxes. The tax benefit applies as long as the money is withdrawn as a pension and not as a lump sum.

Best regards from Moneyguru.
