Yes, voluntary contributions to your 2a occupational pension fund can be as high as the gap in your pension fund. A "gap" is created when your current salary and resulting contributions are higher than your salaries were in the past. In this case, you can make up the difference between your current and previous contributions by making voluntary payments to your pension fund, until the gap is closed in full.

However, making voluntary contributions higher than your annual income annuls part of the tax benefit you could receive. Ideally, you should only contribute enough to make up the difference between your annual income and all other tax deductions for which you are eligible.

So while you can make voluntary contributions higher than your annual income in one year, you may save money by closing part of the gap one year and the rest of the gap in subsequent years, depending on your annual income and other tax deductions.
