What exactly does the Credit Suisse Digipigi offer? Is it a useful bank account for children? Does anyone here have experience with this product? Would you recommend it?

Hi there,

The Digipigi is offered as part of the Viva Kids banking package from Credit Suisse. It is an piggy bank with electronic components which is linked to the Viva Kids private account via Credit Suisse online banking.

This piggy bank can be used to hold coins, like regular piggy banks, with the hold secured by a magnetic lock which can only be opened by parents (via an app using your home WiFi) or by a Credit Suisse branch office. Deposits of money into the piggy bank are accompanies by images on a screen and sound effects which are meant to encourage children to save.

The accompanying kids app lets your child track the contents of their Digipigi and assets held in their Viva Kids private and savings accounts. The app also includes functions which let children set financial goals and track their savings performance. It can also include a checklist of chores which a child is expected to perform in order to receive their allowance.

The accompanying parents app lets parents set up allowance schedules, track the contents of their child's piggy bank, private account and savings account. Parents can use Credit Suisse mobile banking to transfer money to and between their child's priavate and savings accounts. parents can also define chores which must be completed before the child's allowance is paid out.

Digipigi also doubles as a watch, alarm clock and night light. The WiFi function switches off at night.

The Digipigi is marketed by Credit Suisse as an educational tool, and it will likely appeal to some parents. Children whose parents have a Credit Suisse Bonviva banking package can obtain the Digipigi free of charge. If you hold a regular Credit Suisse private account, you must pay 99 francs to include the Digipigi in your child's Viva Kids package (it is optional).

Best regards from Moneyguru
