Can I claim the cost of dental braces back from my kids' health insurance? I have been told that Swiss health insurance covers braces and retainers, and this is probably my only real healthcare expense since coming to Switzerland.

Basic, compulsory Swiss health insurance does not cover the costs of dental braces and retainers. But many supplementary insurance policies do include coverage for dental realignment treatments.
The supplemental health insurance comparison on moneyland.ch makes it easy to find policies which include coverage for dental realignments. Just select "Tooth misalignment treatments" under "Requested services" to limit results to policies which include this benefit.
