Dear Sir/Madam,

I read your website with great interest.

As a potential non-resident investor in Switzerland I would like to enquire if non-residents have to pay tax on a life insurance product? Does a non resident have to pay tax on a Swiss annuity?

Thank you

Regards

Hi there,

Swiss life annuities are subject to a 15% withholding tax. This tax is withheld by the insurance provider on behalf of Swiss tax authorities.

If you live in a country with which Switzerland has a double taxation tax treaty, you can request a refund of this withholding tax if you meet the requirements laid out in the double taxation treaty. This allows you to avoid paying taxes twice on the same income.

Best regards from Moneyguru
