I am nearning retirement age and am trying to plan the withdrawal of my retirement assets in the most tax-efficient manner. My question is, if I withdraw my 3a savings and then use these to close the gaps in my pension fund during the same tax year, can I claim a tax deduction for the pension fund contributions? That would help me avoid paying more income tax and wealth tax than I need to. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Hi there,

Whether or not you can withdraw 3a savings at the reduced tax rate and then use those savings to close gaps in your 2a pension fund and claim the tax deduction in the same tax year depends on your canton of residence. Some cantons, including Thurgau and Aargau, do allow this process.

Best regards from Moneyguru
