Has anyone here used Splint Invest for alternative assets?
I've been trying it out with a couple hundred francs invested. It's an interesting concept. But too early for me to give any feedback about returns, since none of my positions have been sold yet (and likely won't mature for some time still).
Here's my update about Splint Invest.
In the meantime, I've held assets until they were "Exited" and have also bought and sold on the marketplace. My experience has been that Splint delivered what it claims.
I have made multiple withdrawals worth thousands of francs without any issues. The marketplace is surprisingly liquid, and I have been able to sell numerous Splints (shares in tangible assets) at a profit on the marketplace and thus get returns without having to wait until the exit.
My one issue is that they do not have a CHF-denominated account, so you have currency exchange risk with the euro. I figure that is because most of the assets are bought and sold in Europe. It would also be nice if they provided a clear overview of your total capital gains (you do see the figures for each sale in the list of incoming and outgoing transfers, and can calculate returns yourself from these). It also took me a while to figure out how to sell on the marketplace. Some options for automating recurring investments would be nice, but they do have a fund for those who want to invest passively.
On the whole, the service itself is solid and I can recommend it for investors who want to hold or trade tangible assets. There are a few improvements that could be made to the app that would make it more intuitive, but once you figure out where to find what, it's a great solution for creating a diversified component of tangible assets for your portfolio.
