Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a free checking account in Switzerland? I need to make transfers in and out.

Best regards.

Hi there,

There is no such thing as a completely free bank account ("checking account" or "private account" as it is known in Switzerland) in the sense of an account with absolutely no fees and charges.

Many different costs may apply: Administrative fees, costs attached to different kinds of transactions (i.e. foreign transactions), debit cards (Maestro, V-Pay or PostFinance Card), withdrawal fees, fees charged by third-party financial services providers, account closure fees and many more.

Still, there are private accounts for adults which do not have a basic administrative fee (savings accounts, youth and student accounts are offered free of charge by most banks). Some banks waive administrative fees when you deposit large amounts of assets (Example: Account fee waiver at PostFinance).

Finding the most affordable account requires a detailed calculation of costs based on your banking needs. The private account comparison on moneyland.ch makes it easy to compare the total cost of accounts. Just select the "Individual profile" option under "Profile selection" to specify your anticipated transactions.

Best regards from Moneyguru
