Migros Bank claims to be the only Swiss bank to offer free Maestro debit card to all customers. Are there any other Swiss banks which provide debit cards free of charge?

Greetings,

The Maestro debit card offered by Migros Bank does not have an annual fee. The former annual fee of 30 Swiss francs was removed in July 2015.

However, Migros Bank introduced an out-of-network ATM fee of 2 francs per withdrawal at the same time. Many Swiss banks charge similar out-of-network ATM fees.

Other Swiss banks charge annual fees of 30,40 or even 50 francs for Maestro or V-Pay debit cards. Most banks waive this fee for youth and student accounts.

Bank packages, which include debit cards, credit cards, private accounts and savings accounts are offered by many Swiss banks (but not Migros Bank). These package deals may include free debit cards. However, you pay an annual fee for the bank package.

Postfinance does not charge an annual fee for its Postfinance debit card. This card is not a Maestro, but it does benefit from exceptionally wide acceptance in Switzerland.

The private account comparison on moneyland.ch lets you choose whether or not you want a debit card (like Maestro). The comparison results will then account for this automatically.
