Hi there,

As long as you have paid your rent correctly to date, your landlord should release your deposit plus interest earned when your rental agreement ends.

Your landlord may hold you liable for damages which you inflicted on their property. If you have personal liability insurance, you can file claims to have liability claims covered - minus your deductible.

Returning the rental property to your landlord clean and in good condition will help to prevent possible issues.

Your landlord should return your deposit once the final assessment of damages has been finalized and all damages have been paid for either out of your own pocket, out of your deposit (with your agreement) or by your personal liability insurance provider.

In some cases, it can take some time for the cost of damages to be assessed. However, if your landlord does not return your rental deposit to you within 1 year of the termination of the rental agreement, you may collect your deposit from the bank without the landlord's agreement.

Best regards from Moneyguru
