Basic Swiss health insurance doesn't seem to cover dental care. How can I get health insurance for dentist bills? Do I need another insurance policy? Which insurance company is best? Thanks for your help.

Greetings,

Compulsory Swiss health insurance does provide some coverage for dental care, but this is limited to care for severe dental problems resulting from illness.

However, a number of Swiss supplementary health insurance policies provide coverage for dental care - up to certain limits. Others can include dental insurance if you choose to add it as a policy rider. Some policies limit this coverage to people under certain age limits.

Coverage for dental realignment treatments (braces and retainers) for children is more often included in policies and is also more generous. This is a plus because realignment treatments can be very costly.

You can easily find the policies which offer dental coverage by using the filter and sort tools in the moneyland.ch supplemental health insurance comparison. Just select "Dental treatments" under "Requested services" to limit results to policies which offer some amount of dental coverage. The exact coverage offered is shown on the individual information pages of each policy.

Best regards from Moneyguru
