I live in Switzerland and have just become self-employed and opened a 3a retirement account. How much am I allowed to deposit in this account every year? I don't have any other retirement plan as yet, so the more I can tuck away the merrier.

Hi there,

Self-employed individuals can contribute as much as 20% of their income to 3a retirement savings on a tax-deductible basis – up to an annual cap set by the Swiss federal government.

Caps on annual contributions for employees who are members of occupational pension fund are much lower because contributions to their pension funds are also tax-deductible.

3a contribution caps are adjusted from time to time. You can find the current caps in our guide to maximum 3a annual contributions.

Best regards from Moneyguru
