I broke a tooth biting on a piece of hard candy. Can I claim the dentist expenses from Swiss accident insurance or health insurance?

Hi there,

Swiss compulsory health insurance does not cover regular damages to teeth which are not caused by an illness or medical treatment.

Swiss accident insurance (occupational or health insurance) covers damages to teeth if these are caused by unusual circumstances. For example, the cost of repairing a broken tooth may be covered by accident insurance if the damages was caused by stones or seeds in store-bought products which should not contain these items.

Soe supplementary health insurance policies include dental coverage, and this may cover part of the costs of repair. In most cases dental benefits only apply to children and youths. Selecting the "Dental treatments" filter in the moneyland.ch supplementary health insurance comparison lets you limit results to policies which include some amount of dental insurance.

Best regards from Moneyguru
