I know that having liability insurance for your car is mandatory in Switzerland, but it does not seem that anybody actually checks up on this. What happens if I drive without liability car insurance in Switzerland?

Hi there,

In order to receive a set of license plates from the traffic department, you will have to provide proof of liability car insurance. While it is obviously possible to drive a car which is not insured against liability claims, doing this exposes you to a huge amount of risk. Liability claims resulting from car accidents can reach 7-digit figures.

Best regards from Moneyguru
