We just founded a ladies club and someone brought up the question of insurance. Considering we rent the clubhouse and make day trips, having liability insurance for the club could make sense. Has anyone got experience with insuring clubs or associations against liability?

Hi there,

It is possible to obtain public liability insurance for your association. This covers liability for injuries to third-party people and property. However, it does not normall cover damages to association members and property or to buidlings rented by the club.

If your club's activities include a lot of interaction with non-members (selling food or drinks to the public or organizing activities for the general public, for example), then getting public liability insurance could be a good way to protect the association's finances.

Certain clubs may already receive public liability insurance through membership in club associations. For example, if your sports club is part of a sports club association, it may receive public liability insurance coverage as a membership benefit.

Before buying public liability insurane, consider that accidents which occur in the course of club activities are covered by each individual's compulsory accident insurance. Damages to a building or to property belonging to other people are generally covered by each individual's personal liability insurance.
