My husband lost his expensive watch. Is this covered by Swiss liability insurance or household insurance? I still don't fully understand what is covered by each insurance.

Thanks

Greetings,

Basic Swiss liability and household insurances do not generally cover lost personal property.

Personal liablity insurance covers damages to a third-party's personal property by you. Household insurance covers damages to your personal property by an unliable third party (a thief or material hazard, for example).

However, if you have valuables insurance (this often comes as an optional rider for household insurance policies), you are probably covered. Many valuables insurance policies cover lost and misplaced valuables in addition to theft and destruction.

You can find out more in the moneyland.ch guide to household insurance.

Best regards from Moneyguru
