I am employed part-time, but not enough to join my employer's pension fund. Can I save using a 3a account? How much can I save each year?

Hi there,

Part-time employees which do not participate in a pension fund can contribute up to 20% of their salary to 3a retirement savings - up to the maximum contribution applicable to self-employed individuals (CHF 33 840 in 2017). As long as you are paying social security contributions, you are eligible to contribute to the 3a category of retirement savings.

The interest you earn varies broadly between 3a retirement accounts, so comparing accounts is important. You can do so using the 3a retirement account comparison on moneyland.ch.

Best regards from Moneyguru
