Hello,

Can I continue to pay money into the third pillar of Swiss retirement savings (3a account or insurance policy) while I am on maternity leave?

Thanks and cheers

Yes. As long as you remain employed and continue to make social security contributions, you can continue to contribute to the third pillar (private retirement savings), up to the legal limits.

During the legally designated period of maternity leave, you retain your employment at your current employer. Your lost income is compensated by maternity income insurance from social security and you acontinue paying social security contributions. Therefore you are fully eligible to continue funding your 3a retirement savings.

You can find out how much you are eligible to contribute to the third pillar in this guide to maximum 3a contributions.
