Whether or not you can join your employer's pension fund is the pension fund's call. Pension funds are not legally obligated to take on part-time employees who are primarily self-employed, even if the salary requirements are met.
Each pension fund has its own policy in this regard. If your employer is hesitant in applying for you, consider reviewing the terms and conditions of your employer's pension fund or contacting the pension fund and asking if you are eligible.
