My father passed away this year and left me his estate. I haven't yet received the money and am wondering if I have to declare the inheritance on my tax return or if I only need to do this in the year that I actually receive the money.

Hi there,

For tax puposes, the date on which you become entitled to receive assets is more important than the date on which you actually receive the assets.

Swiss tax returns include a special field in which you can list inheritances which you are entitled to but which have not yet been distributed.

Best regards from Moneyguru
