Hello,

What would you recommend between changing money in CH or withdraw money with credit card in Namibia?

Buy South African rands in Switzerland. Swiss banks have much better rates for South African rand than for Namibian dollars. You can use rand anywhere in the southern African currency area (Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland) at the rate of 1-to-1 with the local currency.

Withdrawing money at ATMs in Namibia can get expensive because banks there charge you high ATM fees for withdrawals with foreign cards (around 3% of the amount you withdraw). You can end up making a lot of withdrawals because the maximum amounts you can withdraw are generally low (commonly 50 francs worth of Namibian dollars, depending on the ATM).

On top of that, if you withdraw by credit card, your Swiss credit card company will charge you horrendous fees (think 10 francs per withdrawal). If you prefer to withdraw money there instead of carrying a lot with you, then use a debit card. The fees are much lower.

Larger businesses in Namibia, like bigger hotels, gas stations, supermarkets, etc. often accept card payments. In the tourist hubs it's also common to get restaurants and shops that accept cards, especially bigger/chain stores. If you have a card with good exchange rates and low/no foreign transaction fees, then you may not need that much local currency, depending on where you want to go.
