Investment Bank

An investment bank is a bank which specializes in financing large-scale private enterprises by connecting them with capital.

Services provided by investment banks include underwriting corporate securities and acting as transfer agents for public companies and mediating mergers and acquisitions.

Today, investment banks often perform the duties of merchant banks as well, providing loans to enterprises and investing venture capital and private equity in corporations. Investment banks may also act as clearing houses for the settlement of international merchant transactions.
