Kbps

Kbps is the abbreviated form of kilobits per second. It is a measurement which indicates how many kilobits (1000 bits) of data can be transferred through a data connection in one second.

In Switzerland, Kbps was the standard measurement used to indicate the speed of broadband and mobile data services for many years. As the speed of networks and connections improved, service providers began to list data transfer speeds in Mbps or Gbps.

Example: 1 byte is made up of 8 bits. If data is transferred at a constant rate of 1 Kbps, 125 bytes will be transferred in 1 second.

The download calculator on moneyland.ch lets you calculate how long it would take to transfer a certain amount of data, based on a given Internet speed.
