Prepaid Mobile: Guide to Topping Up

November 28, 2022 - Ralf Beyeler

Find all the information you need about loading prepaid mobile accounts from different Swiss mobile service providers in this moneyland.ch guide.

Buying prepaid mobile credits is very simple, but your options depend on which Swiss mobile service provider you use.

Topping up your prepaid mobile account online

Many Swiss prepaid mobile service providers give you the option of loading your account online in their web portals or apps. Typically, you can pay for online top-ups using a credit card. Some mobile services also accept PostFinance debit card and Twint payments.

Not all Swiss ATMs give you the option of topping up prepaid mobile credits. Around 50 Swiss banks offer prepaid mobile top-ups at their ATMs. You can top up your mobile account at Swiss ATMs using Swiss Maestro and V Pay debit cards. Migros Bank ATMs accept payments by M-Card. The recently introduced Debit Mastercard and Visa Debit cards are not yet supported.

Topping up at PostFinance ATMs is only possible if you have a PostFinance debit card.

Topping up your prepaid mobile account at supermarkets

Many Swiss mobile service providers sell prepaid vouchers at the tills of supermarkets. You can simply tell the cashier which prepaid service you use and how much you want to top up (or enter it at the self-checkout machine) to get a voucher with a top up code.

Topping up at mobile customer service outlets

If you use Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt, you can top up your prepaid account at customer service outlets operated by your telecom provider. Some mobile services give their mobile plan subscribers the option of crediting prepaid mobile accounts. The mobile plan subscriber is billed for any money which they credit to prepaid mobile accounts. In order to top up prepaid accounts using a mobile plan, both the prepaid user and the plan user need to have the same mobile service provider.
