Music streaming service provider Spotify is raising the prices of its paid subscriptions with immediate effect. The prices are going up by 1 franc per month for student subscriptions, 2 francs for individuals, and 3 francs for two-person subscriptions. The family subscription now costs 4 francs more per month – an increase of 17.4 percent.
The price hikes only apply to the advertisement-free Premium subscriptions. The subscription with advertisements will remain free of charge, but this plan has many limitations. For example, downloading music and using Spotify offline are not possible with the unpaid subscription.
The Swedish streaming service, which is the market leader in Switzerland, last raised its prices in August 2023.
How does Spotify compare to competing offers?
Following the current price hikes, Spotify is now one of the most expensive music streaming services in Switzerland. For students, Spotify holds the uncomfortable position of having the most expensive music streaming subscriptions out there. For individuals and families, though, Qobuz Studio remains the most expensive option, costing between 17.99 and 29.99 francs per month. However, Qobuz Studio gives you the option of paying the fee annually, in which case the monthly cost is 14.99 or 24.99 francs respectively.
