Survey: How Customers Rate Swiss Health Insurance Providers

May 7, 2025 - Benjamin Manz

Online comparison survey moneyland.ch surveyed customer satisfaction with Swiss health insurance providers. Young adults and residents of French-speaking Switzerland are less satisfied with their health insurance providers. Satisfaction ratings are highest for friendliness of employees and lowest for value-for-money.

Health insurance premiums climbed steeply for the 2025 premium year. Over the past 10 years, health insurance premiums have gone up by a hefty 38 percent, with the price hikes in the past three years being far above the average. In spite of this, customers remain largely satisfied with the services provided by individual health insurance providers, as the moneyland.ch survey shows.

In a representative survey conducted by moneyland.ch, customers were asked to rate their satisfaction with their health insurance providers based on: The friendliness of employees, the availability of customer support, value-for-money, flexibility with regards to insurance claims, time required to handle claims and pay out benefits, clarity of information provided to customers, mobile apps, supplemental health insurance, and overall satisfaction.

The 1500 survey participants rated their satisfaction with their current health insurance providers on a scale of 1 (not at all satisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied).

The results show that Swiss are generally content with their health insurance. But there are clear differences between insurance providers, age groups, regions, and individual aspects of services provided. “Young adults and residents of French-speaking Switzerland are less satisfied with their health insurance providers,” observes Benjamin Manz, managing director at moneyland.ch. Wealthy residents tend to be less satisfied with their health insurance providers than poorer residents. Differences between genders, on the other hand, are hardly visible.

Value-for-money has the lowest ratings

The “overall satisfaction” criterion received an average of 7.7 out of 10 points across all insurers. That translates into a “good” rating. The friendliness of employees received an average rating of 7.8 points (good), mobile apps received 7.6 points (good), clarity of information provided to customers received 7.5 points (good), flexibility with regards to claims received 7.4 points (satisfactory). Value-for-money received the lowest average rating, at just 6.9 points (sufficient).

“With 7.7 points, the average rating for overall satisfaction with Swiss health insurance providers is slightly lower than last year’s, but is still enough for a “good” rating. Customer sentiment towards the high cost of health insurance is poorer due to the latest major premium hike. In 2025 too, value-for-money received the lowest customer satisfaction ratings,” explains Manz.

These health insurance providers have the highest overall customer satisfaction

moneyland.ch asked participants to rate their overall satisfaction with their health insurance providers based on their personal experience. In 2025, the highest overall satisfaction ratings were given by customers of Concordia, Helsana, and Swica (8 out of 10 points, a “very good” rating), and KPT and Sanitas (7.9 out of 10 points, a “good” rating).

Other insurers that received high overall satisfaction ratings are Visana (7.8 points), Atupri and CSS (7.7 points), and Sympany (7.6 points). All of these received a “good” rating for overall customer satisfaction.

On the other end of this year’s overall customer satisfaction scale are Assura (7.3 points, a “satisfactory” rating) and Groupe Mutuel (7 out of 10 points, a “satisfactory” rating). Unsatisfied customers in the Romandy

As in previous years, residents of French-speaking regions are much less satisfied with their health insurance providers than residents of German-speaking Switzerland. For the sake of comparison, the average overall satisfaction rating from residents of French-speaking Switzerland is 7.5 out of 10 points, compared to 7.8 points in German-speaking Switzerland. Customer satisfaction with value-for-money was rated at 6.8 out of 10 points by residents of French-speaking Switzerland, compared to 7 points in German-speaking Switzerland. One possible explanation for this difference is the fact that health insurance premiums are higher in the Romandy than in German-speaking Switzerland.

The older the person is, the more satisfied they are

The younger a resident is, the less satisfied they are with their health insurance provider. The average ratings for overall satisfaction from adults between the ages of 18 and 25 is just 7.4 out of 10 points. Participants between the ages of 26 and 49 years old have an average overall satisfaction rating of 7.5 points. Older residents are more satisfied with their health insurance providers, with an average overall satisfaction rating of 8 points.

One possible explanation for these differences is that young residents are less likely to claim on their health insurance, but are still obligated to pay for it. As a person ages, they are more likely to use their health insurance benefits.
