The football world cup will kick off in Mexico on Thursday, June 11, 2026. Millions of fans around the world will watch the games on TV.
Football fans in Switzerland are in luck: All of the FIFA World Cup games will be broadcast on Swiss public TV stations. In many other countries, fans can only watch some of the world cup games at no extra cost. In France, for example, 52 matches will only be broadcast on pay TV. In Germany, 44 matches are limited to pay TV.
The Swiss public TV stations RSI, RTS, and SRF have obtained the rights to broadcast all world cup matches. All matches will also be shown on BBC and ITV - English-language TV stations that are available in Switzerland.
All football matches can also be streamed in the SRF app and the SRF website. That also applies to matches that are not broadcast on conventional live TV due to more than one match occurring simultaneously.
Many other foreign TV stations will also broadcast all or part of the world cup games.
World cup matches in full HD
You can watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in full HD (1080p, or 1080i for cable TV). That applies to both conventional TV (via Swisscom, Sunrise, or Quickline), Internet TV (Zattoo and Teleboy), and streaming via the SRF app.
That is a positive development. Tournaments like the UEFA European Football Championship 2024, for example, only appeared on Swiss public stations in the lower-quality HD Ready resolution (720p).
At what times will the world cup matches be broadcast?
The matches will be played at many different times of day. Due to time zones, the live broadcasts of some games will occur in the middle of the night. Luckily for Swiss fans, the three group matches of the Swiss national team all begin at 9:00 PM, Swiss time.
