Video Streaming

The term video streaming denotes the transfer of digital video data from one digital device to another over an Internet connection for immediate display on the recipient device as it is being transferred. This differentiates streaming from downloading in the popular sense of the term – in which video data is copied from one device to another via an Internet connection in full.

An advantage of video streaming is that it can be used to transfer live video. This advantage has led to the launch of numerous sports broadcast streaming services. Another advantage is that video can be accessed immediately at any time, without waiting time. A disadvantage of streaming services is that they depend on the rapid transfer of large amounts of data. This means that insufficient Internet connection speeds can result in poor video quality.
