Wingo International Mobile Plan Reviewed

November 18, 2020 - Ralf Beyeler

Swisscom’s Wingo brand is launching a new International mobile plan. Telecom expert Ralf Beyeler from independent online comparison service moneyland.ch looks at the Wingo International plan in detail in this review.

From November 18, 2020, Swisscom subsidiary Wingo is offering its new Wingo International mobile plan.

1. What is included in the Wingo International plan?

The plan’s flat fee covers unlimited mobile data in Switzerland. It also includes 40 gigabytes of roaming data per month. Unlimited local calls within Switzerland and international calls to most European countries and some other countries like the US, Canada, Turkey and Puerto Rico complete the package deal. Calls can be made from Switzerland or from any of the countries mentioned above.

2. What does the Wingo International plan cost?

The new Wingo International plan costs 130 francs per month at the standard price tag. You also pay a one-time activation fee of 40 francs. It is likely that the plan will be offered at lower prices as part of special promotions.

3. How does Wingo International compare with similar offers?

A number of service providers offer mobile plans with 40 gigabytes of data roaming in Europe and unlimited calls and data in Switzerland.

This table shows these offers and their standard price tags. All of these include 40 gigabytes of data roaming in Europe, international calls from Switzerland to most European countries, and calls from most European countries to Switzerland.

Service Provider Offer Monthly Cost
Salt Europe XXL CHF 89.95
Sunrise We XL CHF 100
Swisscom inOne mobile Go + International Calls CHF 100
Yallo Superfat XXL CHF 128
Wingo International CHF 130

What is special about Wingo International is that it also includes the US, Canada, Turkey and Puerto Rico. This is not the case with most competing offers. If you make a lot of calls to these countries or if you travel to these countries often, using Wingo International can work out cheaper in some cases.

4. Verdict by telecom expert Ralf Beyeler

Wingo is generally one of the more affordable Swiss telecom service providers. But this is not the case with Wingo International.

For this reason, telecom expert Ralf Beyeler from independent online comparison service moneyland.ch is not convinced. Wingo International – at its standard price tag – is expensive compared to competing offers (though it may be offered at lower prices as part of special promotions). Even the competing plan offered by Wingo’s parent company Swisscom is a more affordable option for average roaming within Europe.

The main advantage of the Wingo International mobile plan over competing offers is that it includes international calls and roaming in the US, Canada, Turkey and Puerto Rico in addition to Europe.
