New Yallo fat plus Mobile Plan

August 23, 2019 - Ralf Beyeler

Yallo is launching a new mobile plan branded fat plus. This plan replaces the fat mobile plan. Telecom expert Ralf Beyeler examines the new plan in this review.

Yallo is launching a new mobile plan branded as Yallo fat plus with a 78-Swiss-franc monthly fee. That monthly flat rate covers unlimited calls and Internet within Switzerland.

The plan also includes mobile roaming allowances. Users receive 3 gigabytes of data roaming and 300 minutes of call roaming in the Europe, Canada and the U.S. It also includes 100 minutes of international calls from Switzerland to European countries.

Yallo is phasing out its previous Yallo fat plan, and is no longer offering it to new customers. New Yallo customers can choose from the following plans in the fat lineup: fat plus, super fat, fat XL, and super fat XL. These plans primarily differ in terms of the included roaming and international call allowances.

Assessment by moneyland.ch telecom expert Ralf Beyeler

As will all mobile plans, prospective users should carefully consider whether the services provided outweigh the costs. If you only occasionally travel outside of Switzerland, getting this kind of plan is not usually worth it. This is especially true if you only travel abroad in your holidays and not for work.

“It is a shame that Yallo isn’t offering its former Yallo fat plan any more,” says Ralf Beyeler. The former Yallo flat plan, with its 200-megabyte data roaming allowance and 60 minutes of international calling was an interesting option for many mobile users.

The nearest thing now available to new Yallo customers who want small data roaming and international call allowances is the Yallo fat plus plan, which costs 20 francs more than Yallo fat did. That equates to a 34% markup in exchange for 40 more minutes of international calling.

Yallo’s competitors have more attractive offers: For 80 francs per month – 2 francs more than the cost of Yallo’s fat plus plan – Swisscom offers a plan which includes 40 gigabytes of data roaming. The downside of the Swisscom plan is that it does not include international calls.

It is worth noting, however, that Yallo regularly runs special promotions with very high discounts.
