David Dreman (* 1936)

David Dreman is a classical «contrarian value investor».

From early on, Dreman was fascinated by the psychological laws and irrational behavioural patterns at the stock exchange. Especially obvious to him was the herd instinct of many investors who buy and sell without analysing the according value position - just because others before them had also bought and sold.

As a consequence, Dreman buys assets there where the herd of investors is mistaken and sells below price – especially when shares are «hitting rock bottom» and nobody wants them, even though they have good fundamental data («I paraphrase Lord Rothschild: The time to buy is when there’s blood on the streets»).

David Dreman is the author of the classic «Contrarian Investment Strategy: The Psychology of Stock Market Success» in 1980.
