Only a few football matches are broadcast on public Swiss television. In Switzerland, many football matches are only played on one pay TV or streaming service which holds exclusive broadcasting rights. As a football fan living in Switzerland, you either have to be content with the football matches offered by one service provider, or be ready to cough up a lot of money to pay for multiple TV plans.
Blue is the only pay TV service for football. It is offered in combination with conventional Swiss TV plans like those from Swisscom, Sunrise, UPC and Quickline. Mysports, the pay TV service from Sunrise, no longer airs football matches.
There are also specialized sports TV video streaming services like Dazn and Sky Sport. Blue Sport is also available as a video streaming plan.
What do sports streaming services cost?
Blue Sport, Dazn, and Sky Sport use models similar to that of Netflix. You subscribe to a plan and pay a monthly or annual fee. You can access the streaming service and watch football via any Internet connection on your desktop, laptop, on a television set using a TV box (like Apple TV) or on your smartphone or tablet using an app.
The Blue Sport subscription costs 29.90 francs per month. Important: The minimum subscription term is six months, with a one-month notice period for terminations.
The Dazn sports streaming plan costs 12.90 Swiss francs per month. Dazn is also available with an annual plan for 129 francs per year.
Sport streaming service Sky Sport costs 19.90 francs per month. Sky Sport also offers an event pass for a single match at a cost of 9.90 francs, which is an interesting option if you only watch football occasionally.
What does Blue from Swisscom offer football fans?
Swiss telecom provider Swisscom is a major football broadcaster. For many years, the sports broadcasts from Swisscom’s Teleclub pay TV service were only accessible to customers with both an Internet plan and a TV plan from Swisscom. Today, Blue (formerly Teleclub) sports broadcasts are available via a stand-alone streaming offer and as an add-on for TV plans from Swisscom, UPC and other service providers.
Swisscom Blue subscribers can watch individual football games on a pay-per-view basis for 9.90 francs per match (Swiss national matches cost 7.90 francs) (available until June 20, 2023).
Alternatively, you can subscribe to the Blue Sport plan for 29.90 francs per month to watch unlimited sports broadcasts. Blue Sports includes 45 channels with live sports broadcasts.
Which football matches can I watch with free TV channels?
Swiss public television – which you pay for via your compulsory TV and radio duties – does not offer many football matches.
Currently Swiss public television stations RSI (Italian), RTS (French), and SRF (German) broadcast one Credit Suisse Super League match per round. The 3+ and TV24 channels air select Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europe League matches. Swisscom’s free Blue Zoom channel (formerly Teleclub Zoom) regularly broadcasts football matches, including one game from each round of the Swiss Dieci Challenge League.
Many national matches, World Cup qualification rounds, and World Cup and European Cup matches are broadcast on free-to-watch public and commercial TV channels.
Where can I watch Swiss football?
Blue from Swisscom broadcasts all matches in the Raiffeisen Super League – Switzerland’s highest football league – and select matches in the Brack.ch Challenge League.
You can watch matches on a pay-per-view basis for 7.90 francs per match (available until June 20, 2023). Alternatively, you can subscribe to Blue Sport to watch unlimited sports broadcasts.
Where can I watch Uefa matches?
The Uefa Champions League is one of the most popular football tournaments and pitches the best football clubs in Europe against each other. Swiss public television broadcaster SRF covers one Champions League match per week live. The Champions League final and a few other matches are also broadcast on free TV channel Blue Zoom.
SRF broadcasts one Uefa Europe League match which includes a Swiss football club every Thursday. These broadcasts can be viewed free of charge.
All other Uefa Champions League, Uefa Europe League and Uefa Supercup matches are only available on Blue pay TV from Swisscom.
