I make a lot of money transfers between Germany and Switzerland. I have an account with Comdirect, which is part of Commerzbank.

UBS has a direkt connection with Commerzbank, so transfers are completed extremely fast - often on the same day.

money-net, which is part of the Berner Kantonalbank, obviously does not have the same kind of connections. Transfer take a while and you pay transaction fees.

I could imagine that Credit Suisse has similar connections as UBS.

Does anyone have experience with international transfers at Migros Bank?

Are there specific Swiss banks that are known for fast and cheap international money transfers?

Greetings,

How much you pay for transactions depends on which currency you transfer and the method you use. Banks usually give you several options of how you want transfer fees to be paid. When you choose the "OUR" option, you as the sender pay all costs. The "SHA" option shares the cost of the transfer between the sender and the recipient. The "BEN" option charges all costs to the recipient.

Transfer in euros can be made using SEPA. Some Swiss banks either do not charge for SEPA tansfers. Other banks do charge a fee, and this fee ranges from 30 centimes to 5 francs depending on the bank (1 and 2 franc fees are the most common).

Making transfers in other currencies is usually more expensive.

Many banks also charge higher fees when you order transfers by phone or fax. Customers who order transfers online pay lower fees at many banks.

The private account comparison on moneyland.ch lets you enter the exact amount of international transfers (both SEPA and non-SEPA) which you expect to make when you choose the "Individual profile". The costs of transfers are accounted for in comparison results. The "SHA" cost sharing model is used for calculations.

Migros Bank charges 2 francs per SEPA transaction.

Best regards from Moneyguru
