I divorced my husband some years ago and because I am not employed, my half of his pension savings was placed in the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution (Auffangeinrichtung BVG). Can I get a pension based on that money instead of having the money paid out in a lump sum?

Hi there,

You can receive a pension from the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution based on the portion of retirement savings which you receive after a divorce. The minimum required conversion rate is used to determine the pension which you receive.

Important: Only pension savings received through divorce can be converted into a pension. All other 2a pension fund contributions which end up being managed by the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution can only be withdrawn as a lump sum.

Best regards from Moneyguru
