In addition to the insurance premiums you pay, there are also other costs which may apply. These are all accounted for in the moneyland.ch comparison. These are the main costs which may apply to pet insurance:
- Insurance premiums.
- Stamp duties equal to 5% of insurance premiums.
- Coinsurance: Many pet insurances require you to cover a percentage of each covered expense yourself. For example, you may have to cover 10% of all veterinarian bills yourself.
- Deductible: Many pet insurance policies also have fixed annual deductibles. The deductible is the portion of expenses which you must pay in a given year. The insurance only covers expenses in excess of the deductible. For example, pet insurance offers may have annual deductibles of 100, 250, 300 or 1000 francs.
- One-time fee: Many pet insurance providers charged a one-time fee when you take out pet insurance. For example, you may a one-off administrative fee of 10 francs when you first get an insurance.
Sum insured: Many pet insurance offers have limits on the maximum coverage they provide. You have to cover costs in excess of the sum insured out of your own pocket. For example, a pet insurance policy may cover up to 1000, 5000, or 50,000 francs. If your veterinary expenses exceed that limit, you have to cover the difference.
