Wingo Is Next to Hike Mobile Plan Fees

April 29, 2025 - Ralf Beyeler

Swisscom’s budget mobile carrier Wingo is raising the prices for all its mobile plans by 1 franc per month. That is a price increase of up to 4 percent. If you account for promotional offers, the price hike is 13.3 percent. Read the analysis by telecom expert Ralf Beyeler.

From July 1, 2025, all mobile plans from Wingo, Swisscom’s budget subsidiary, will cost 1 franc more per month. The price hike affects both new and existing customers, with the exception of customers who get a new plan between April 21 and June 30 of 2025.

Wingo cites higher running costs as the reason behind the price increases. Wingo responded to a moneyland.ch inquiry by stating that its costs for salaries, power, and infrastructure have gone up substantially. Wingo says that the cost of power alone has increased by more than 50 percent since 2021.

Wingo is raising the prices for all of its mobile plans by 1 franc per month. The table below offers an overview of the old and new fees, and the price increases in percentages. The cheaper a plan’s monthly fee is, the bigger the percentual price increase will be.

Services that will not be affected by the price hike are: installment plans for phones; Internet plans; TV plans; optional supplements; and prepaid mobile offers.

All mobile plans will now include 5G

Another change is that all Wingo mobile plans will now give you access to the 5G network. Wingo offers 5G with a maximum speed of 300 Mbps. Currently, only some Wingo plans include 5G connections.

For some time already, Wingo has offered an option called Full Speed 5G for 10 francs per month. This option lets you use 5G connectivity with a speed of up to 2 Gbps. If a speed of 300 Mbps is adequate for your needs, you can disable this option after the change occurs in order to avoid paying for 5G unnecessarily.

Customers have a right to terminate their plans early

Wingo has not offered customers special information about their right to terminate their contracts early due to the price increase. However, when asked by moneyland.ch, Wingo did confirm that the terms and conditions do give customers the right to withdraw from the contract up until July 1 without paying any penalty fees.

Compare offers

A price hike is always a good opportunity to review your needs. Think about what exactly you need and expect from a mobile plan. Compare offers using the interactive mobile plan comparison on moneyland.ch and get informed about current offers.

To give you a point of reference: Mobile plans with unlimited calls and data within Switzerland are currently available from around 13 francs per month. Plans that include some roaming allowances in addition to unlimited local calls and data are available from around 20 francs per month. These are standard prices, without any discounts.

Price increases are a current trend

For many Swiss mobile service providers, 2025 seems to be the year of price hikes. Salt and Sunrise raised their prices in March, followed by Lebara and Yallo in April. The price hikes introduced by these carriers ranged between 50 centimes and 2.30 francs per month.

It is worth noting that while the new Sunrise mobile plans introduced on April 7, 2025, are more expensive than the previously-offered plans, they also include more allowances.

At this time, Swisscom is avoiding across-the-board price increases for its own Swisscom mobile plans, as confirmed to moneyland.ch. Its subsidiaries Coop Mobile and M-Budget Mobile are also currently foregoing general price hikes.

Conclusion by telecom expert Ralf Beyeler

After Salt, Sunrise, Lebara, and Yallo, we now see a Swisscom subsidiary, Wingo, raising its mobile plan fees. It is interesting to observe that it is primarily the three telecom network operators and their subsidiaries that are raising prices. So far, we have seen Salt and Sunrise hike the fees for their own mobile plans, followed by Sunrise subsidiaries Lebara and Yallo. So far, Swisscom and two of its subsidiaries, Coop Mobile and M-Budget Mobile, have refrained from general price hikes.

Curiously, independent carriers like Digital Republic, Galaxus Mobile, and Spusu have not raised their prices. That in spite of the fact that they buy network capacity from network operators like Sunrise and Salt, and charge relatively low prices for their plans.

Wingo is advertising the introduction of 5G across all its mobile plans as a little surprise. But that is just marketing language, as numerous carriers have included 5G as standard with all their plans for a long time now. Now Wingo is playing catch-up. Wingo customers who want 5G are likely already using plans that give them 5G access.

The situation this year, with so many mobile carriers raising their prices, provides an interesting opportunity to see how different carriers communicate the news to customers. One of the less customer-friendly parts of Wingo’s approach is that it did not clearly inform customers about the possibility of terminating their contracts.
