I got wind that TCS changed its credit card fees. What exactly do these changes entail? How highly would you rate TCS credit cards overall?

Hi there,

You are correct in noting that numerous changes apply to the TCS credit card issued by Cembra Money Bank as of December 4, 2017. These changes have already been accounted for in the moneyland.ch credit card comparison.

TCS Member Mastercard:

1. Name change

The card has been renamed to TCS Member Mastercard. The word "member" has been incorporated into the card's name to highlight the fact that the card is only available to TCS members.

2. No annual fee

The card no longer has an annual fee. That means that this card is available at no annual fee to TCS members who already pay a TCS membership fee.

3. Supplementary card at no annual fee

You no longer pay an annual fee for the optional supplementary card.

4. No more cash back

The TCS credit card previously delivered the highest rate of cash back of any Swiss credit card. Now the card does not let you earn cash back at all.

5. Higher discounts at BP and Tamoil

Cardholders now benefit from a higher 3% discount at BP and Tamoil gas stations.

6. Customizable design

Cardholders can customize the card's artwork for an additional fee of CHF 30

TCS Travel Mastercard Gold:

1. Name change

The word "travel" has been added to the card's title to highlight its lower foreign transaction costs.

2. First year annual fee

You now pay the CHF 100 annual fee right from the first year. The annual fee was previously waived during the first year.

3. No cash advance fees abroad

You no longer pay a cash advance fee when you use the card to withdraw cash from ATMs outside of Switzerland. This is currently the only Swiss credit card which provides this benefit.

4. Higher discounts at BP and Tamoil

Cardholders now benefit from a higher 3% discount at BP and Tamoil gas stations.

5. Customizable design

You can customize the look of the card for a one-time fee of CHF 30.

6. Higher travel accident insurance

The card now provides complimentary travel accident insurance of up to CHF 1 million.

The Gold card now doesn't have fees for cash advances outside Switzerland. That isn't accounted for in the credit card comparison.

Hi there,

The cash advance fees are correctly accounted for in the moneyland.ch credit card comparison.

The 1.5% foreign transaction fee is not a cash advance fee. It applies to all transactions outside of Switzerland, including POS transactions, online transactions and cash advances at ATMs. When credit card issuers charge cash advance fees, these apply in addition to foreign transaction fees.
